School of German Language
Established on 1 October 1948, the School of German Language is one of the oldest units of the Belarusian State University of Foreign Languages, having existed since the university's founding.
Educational programs
Currently, the School has an enrollment of approximately 600 students across 2 bachelor's and 1 master's degree program:
- Modern Foreign Languages (German and English)
Degree Awarded: Linguist. Teacher of German and English. Duration: 4 years. Mode of Study: Full-time. - Digital Linguistics (German)
Degree Awarded: Linguist. Specialist in Information Technology.
Duration: 4 years. Mode of Study: Full-time. - Master's Program: Linguodidactics (Advanced Higher Education)
This program is offered to both Belarusian and international students.
Degree Awarded: Master.
Duration: 1 year. Mode of Study: Full-time.
The School's academic staff consists of 70 faculty members across three departments. Nearly half of the instructors hold a Candidate of Sciences or Doctor of Sciences degree.
Departments
Core German language courses—such as Practical Phonetics, Practical Grammar, and Oral and Written Communication Practice—are taught to first- and second-year students by the faculty of the Department of German Phonetics and Grammar.
The Department of German Language Theory and Practice provides German-language instruction for third- and fourth-year students in subjects including Sociocultural Foundations of Communication, Language of Media and Communication, Language for Professional Communication, Fundamentals of Translation, and Foreign Literature.
The Department of Linguodidactics and Foreign Language Teaching Methodology specializes in teaching courses on foreign language teaching methodology at both bachelor's and master's levels.
International cooperation, scientific and youth projects
The School of German Language actively collaborates with universities in the Russian Federation, CIS countries, and the People's Republic of China.
Key successful academic projects include the conferences "Text – Discourse – Culture" (jointly with Kuban State University), "Functional Linguistics and Communication: Challenges and Prospects" (jointly with Southern Federal University), and "Trends in the Development of Language Education in the Modern World."
Annually, more than 300 students from Belarusian and international universities participate in career-oriented competitions such as "About Our Homeland in German," "Terra Linguistica," and the Olympiad "Deutsch ohne Grenzen."
